Lopburi Monkey Buffet Festival

Nov 29, 2026

Lopburi, Thailand

The Monkey Buffet Festival is an extraordinary display of the coexistence and harmony between humans and the wildlife that inhabits the ancient ruins of Lopburi. Each year, the local community provides a massive feast of over two tonnes of fresh tropical fruit and vegetables for the resident long-tailed macaques as a sign of respect and gratitude. This gesture is rooted in the belief that the monkeys bring prosperity and good luck, making them protected members of the local ecosystem.

The event takes place around the 13th-century Phra Prang Sam Yot temple, blending ancient architecture with a vibrant, living celebration of the natural world. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of sharing urban and historical spaces with nature’s creatures.
