Dragon Boat Festival 2027

Jun 8, 2027

Bedok Resevoir, Singapore

The Duanwu Festival or Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and elsewhere around the world. Dragon boat races and rice dumplings are two of the most distinctive elements of the festival.

Singapore's festival is a prestigious and international-standard dragon boat competition, which is held annually. It is also a great event for families to enjoy. In addition to watching the races, you could see traditional ritual performances and enjoy traditional Chinese food.

The story of the Dragon Boat Festival has its roots in the Warring States Period (475–221BC). Qu Yuan, an incorruptible minister, was banished from his kingdom by Lord Huai and later drowned himself. In a bid to save his remains, the common folk threw cooked rice and beat their oars in the water.

The dragon boat races and rice dumplings of the modern day festival are echoes of this touching tale.
