Costa Rica - Where Nature Sets the Rhythm

Costa Rica is often sold as a jungle paradise. Which is true. What is less talked about is how to actually experience it without rushing through the checklist and missing what makes it really special.

The Art of the Unplanned

Costa Rica is not a country that rewards tight schedules. A typical day here rarely goes exactly as planned.

Distances look short on a map, but roads are slow, weather shifts quickly, and you will stop more often than planned. For wildlife, for views, for food, for no clear reason at all. The best trips in Costa Rica are the ones that are built on flexibility from the start.

One of the most common mistakes of excited travellers is trying to “see everything”. Coast, jungle, volcano, cloud forest, all in a week. Which rarely works. The sooner you stop trying to optimise the trip, the better it becomes. And once you learn to let go, the true beauty of the destination unfolds: unexpected wildlife encounters, warm conversations over a cup of coffee, and breathtaking views striking you along the way.

Come for the Nature, Stay for Hospitality

Even though Costa Rica is famous for its natural resources, it is also praised for it’s genuine hospitality, a blend of sustainability, privacy, and refined comfort.   Upscale travel experience here usually means enjoying nature without sacrificing high-end service, a true "barefoot luxury". The country boasts an array of lavish resorts, boutique hotels, eco-lodges, and private villas catering to everyone’s taste and budget.

Away from the more developed areas, Costa Rica reveals a quieter, more grounded side. In parts of the Nicoya Peninsula, daily life still revolves around land, weather, and traditional routine rather than tourism. Staying there requires a bit more effort to reach, but that is precisely what makes the experience more authentic.

Food, often simple, becomes part of the whole experience. Head to a soda (a small, locally owned café) or the local market for the freshest and most authentic cuisine, where meals are fresh, direct, and consistent. You do not come here for elaborate dining, but you begin to appreciate how much quality there is in something uncomplicated and well-made.

Costa Rica is the destination that invites a traveller to blend in naturally rather than trying to impress. And blending in here is so easy. A short stop becomes a conversation with a local. A recommendation leads somewhere unexpected – maybe an excursion you had not planned on. You pull over for fresh fruit and end up learning where it was grown. You sit down for a simple meal, and turns out to be one of the most memorable of the trip. Costa Rica knows how to surprise even an experienced adventurer.

The Less Trendy Wellness

For the past years, Costa Rica has become a sought destination for wellbeing adapts. There are plenty of yoga studios, retreats, and curated programmes everywhere, and travellers can choose between established resorts and cosy jungle lodges.

Traditional wellness therapies include thermal bathing, volcanic stone massages, cacao ceremonies, and rich plant medicine—all rooted in nature and its healing terasures.

But apart from curated treatments and schedules retreats, Costa Rica has its own natural ways to weave healthy practices into your journey:

  • Spending most of the day outdoors;

  • Eating fresh, uncomplicated food;

  • Moving more without planning to;

  • Taking breaks to breathe and observe.

There are, of course, places where wellness is more intentional. In Santa Teresa, yoga unfolds beside the ocean, shaped by sound and light. In the mountains, retreats focus on stillness and reflection. In volcanic regions, hot springs offer a quiet kind of restoration.

Near La Fortuna, days begin with movement, walking through dense greenery, and end in thermal waters where the body finally releases all its tension. Water is everywhere, in sudden rainfall, in hidden waterfalls, in rivers that shape both land and experience. Even a deep breath here feels so refreshing.

What makes Costa Rica compelling is how quickly it changes around you. A morning by the ocean can turn into an afternoon in mist-covered hills, where the air feels cooler and the light more diffused. This is a different kind of wellness, rooted and calming, flowing in sync with the nature.
